Review:Hozier at Olympia Theatre, Dublin

2014 has been a truly unbelievable year for Hozier and he topped it off with a flawless show at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on Thursday night 4 Dec, his first show of a short end-of-year Irish tour.

The Co.Wicklow native, Andrew Hozier-Byrne has had an incredible year playing at some of this summer’s biggest festivals around the world and showcasing his music on US tv shows such as THE ELLEN SHOW, THE LETTERMAN SHOW & THE TONIGHT SHOW with JIMMY FALLON.

Since his breakthrough single Take Me To Church redefined the meaning of “viral”, the young singer from Bray has had the world at his feet.

His slot at Electric Picnic pulled the biggest crowd of this year’s festival,  and he also had the chance to showcase his talents at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Glastonbury in the UK.

His show in The Olympia sold out in seconds and we could see why. The 6ft 5 giant was greeted by rapturous applause as he walked out to greet his fans and it took a couple of minutes for him to take it all in before he kicked the show off with his song “LIKE REAL PEOPLE DO” . As he worked though his set list he played other hits off his debut album like “TAKE ME TO CHURCH”, “FROM EDEN” & “SOMEONE NEW” before he finished on his encore with a cover of AMERIE’S 1 THING and “ANGEL OF SMALL DEATH”. Among the faithful gathered at the Olympia were Love/Hate actors Peter Coonan and Lawrence Kinlan, and Leinster rugby stars Jamie Heaslip, Cian Healy and Rob and Dave Kearney.

Support on the night came from the amazing WYVERN LINGO, who also performed on stage with HOZIER throughout his set.

2015 is set to be a huge year for the Wicklow man and if 2014 is anything to go by, we are in for a treat.
