Theatre & Arts Events on in September & October
The curtains may be closing on summer but things are only getting started in the world of theatre. From remarkably Irish stories to a classic we won't say the name of, there's a seat in a theatre near you with your name on it.
Find out how you can brighten up your slowly darkening Autumn evenings with all the Theatre & Arts events on this September & October.
Riverdance

Gaiety Theatre, Dublin | Until 7 September
You’ve had all summer but in case you missed it, Riverdance has returned home to Ireland running at the Gaiety Theatre into early September. This is not just any Riverdance show. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the show has been rejuvenated with a new production. ‘Riverdance 30 – The New Generation’ showcases the next generation of exceptional performers, all of whom were not born when the show began 30 years ago.
Witness the spectacle that is Riverdance like you’ve never seen it before. The same passion and energy with new, mesmerising and innovative choreography and stage production.
The Weir

3Olympia Theatre, Dublin | Until 6 September
Set on the barstools of a rural pub, Conor McPherson’s award-winning play sees four local men attempt to impress a strange new face who’s just arrived. Their stories become more spectacular as they try to win her approval, until she silences them all with her own deeply haunting tale.
Led by Brendan Gleeson as Jack, making his Irish stage return ahead of his West End debut, the production also features a star-studded cast of Owen McDonnell (Bad Sisters, Killing Eve) as Brendan, Seán McGinley (That They May Face the Rising Sun, A Whistle in the Dark, The Brightening Air) as Jim, Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders, Wolf Hall) as Valerie and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Love/Hate, Howie the Rookie, Say Nothing) as Finbar.
The Secrets of Primrose Square

Gaiety Theatre, Dublin | 9 – 13 September
An instant hit when first published in 2018, Claudia Carroll’s The Secrets of Primrose Square saw a revival as it reached no.1 on the public library download charts in Ireland in 2020 during Lockdown. This September, Carroll’s adaptation for the stage, directed by Mark Lambert, comes to Gaiety Theatre.
Buried among the houses of suburban Dublin, three women deal with their own struggles in the only way they each know how. This feel-good story is filled with laughs, tears and a healthy dose of gossip.
The three interwoven stories are based on a simple quote by Eleanor Roosevelt – “A woman is like a tea bag. You can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.”.
Macbeth

Gaiety Theatre, Dublin | 25 September – 5 October
I won’t say the name, I promise! The Scottish Play makes its way to the Gaiety Theatre as Druid present the classic tale like it has never been seen before, bringing a uniquely Irish perspective to one of Shakespeare’s bloodiest tragedies. A prophecy tempts an ambitious general to pursue the throne, setting him down a path of murder, suspicion, insanity and another lot of murder for good measure.
This production follows Druid’s internationally acclaimed DruidShakespeare (2015) and Richard III (2018) as part of their 50th anniversary season.
Here & Now – The Steps Musical

Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin | 23 September – 4 October
Hopefully a musical wasn’t the last thing on your mind because it’d be a tragedy to miss Here & Now -The Steps Musical when it arrives at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre this September, following its critically acclaimed premiere last November.
In a seaside supermarket, Caz’s seemingly perfect life inspires her friends to ‘take a chance on a happy ending’ and pursue their own summer of love. As Caz discovers the shelves are stocked with lies and betrayal, the whole summer seems in jeopardy unless love has other plans in store.
Whatsonstage called the show “foot kickin’, finger clickin’, leather slapping, hand clappin”, while All That Dazzles gave it five stars, noting “it deserves more than five stars – it deserves 5, 6, 7, 8 of them.”
Three Sisters

Gaiety Theatre, Dublin | 8 – 12 October
Often regarded as one of Anton Chekhov’s best works, Three Sisters is given a contemporary Irish facelift in a new adaptation by award-winning playwright Ciara Elizabeth Smyth. Presented as part of Dublin Theatre Festival, the story follows three sisters as they wait for love and for their lives to begin, while their brother rushes into both, in spite of his sisters disapproval.
This new production features performances from Megan Cusack (Call The Midwife), Lorcan Cranitch (The Crown), Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls), Breffni Holahan (The Nevers), Alex Murphy (The Young Offenders) and Máiréad Tyers (Extraordinary).
Fiddler On The Roof

Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin | 7 – 18 October 2025
From one work that leaves its turn-of-the-century Russian setting to one that keeps it, the classic musical Fiddler On The Roof stops into Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre as part of a limited 8-week tour. Set in tiny village of Anatevka in 1905, Tevye is a Jewish milkman navigating a changing world while trying to maintain his tradition values and facing opposition from his daughters, whose modern ideas of marriage clash with his own beliefs.
This critically acclaimed production, directed by Jordan Fein (Oklahoma, Young Vic), is a musical of joy, revolution and community and an exuberant celebration of love and life.
Reunion

Gaiety Theatre, Dublin | 21 October – 2 November
This October sees Mark O’Rowe’s story reunited (see what I did there?) with the iconic surrounds of the Gaiety Theatre, following last year’s sold-out run. This story of a family gathering that becomes disrupted by the arrival of an unexpected visitor teeters the line between comedy and drama, dancing between the two to create an extraordinarily authentic end result.
Returning once again as part of Dublin Theatre Festival, the show garnered 5-star reviews, being called “a zinger of a play” by The Irish Times and “a thundering cracker of pure entertainment” by Sunday Independent.
