Testament

Gaiety Theatre, Dublin | 8 – 10 October
After a run at the Galway International Arts Festival, ‘Testament’ comes to the Gaiety Theatre as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival. This contemporary chamber opera by Tarik O’Regan with Colm Tóibín, explores Mary in the years following the crucifixion of Jesus, as facts and truth fade into myth and story.
This production features members from the Irish National Opera, including acclaimed mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty, as Mary. This opera is directed from Rachael Hewer and conducted by GRAMMY™ nominee Elaine Kelly. An adaptation of Tóibín’s own novella, ‘A Testament of Mary’, this is a must for readers of the Irish author.
We got the chance to catch up with Sharon Carty to chat about getting into singing, the underrated work of makeup artists and being able to create an opera role for herself as part of our Backstage Pass interview series. You can read the full interview here.
