Van Morrison receives Knighthood in 2015 Queen’s birthday Hounours
The 69-year-old Belfast-born singer-songwriter Van Morrison has been named in the 2015 Queen’s birthday honours. Commenting on the announcement, Van said, “Throughout my career I have always preferred to let my music speak for me and it is a huge honour to now have that body of work recognised in this way. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fans who have supported me on my musical journey.”
The music icon also received the John Mercer Award at this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards. Previous winners include Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Phil Collins, Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, Smokey Robinson and Billy Joel. It’s the highest honour bestowed on previous inductees by the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Van Morrison will perform a fully seated concert at 3Arena on Friday 20 November as part of his 70th birthday celebrations.
