Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, Raging Bull is regarded by many as one of the greatest films of all time. Foxcatcher

Starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffallo, this true crime drama follows a billionaire wrestling buff who enlists two brothers, both whom have won Olympic gold medals, to help coach American wrestlers who are preparing for international competition. I, Tonya

Margot Robbie portrays disgraced American figure skater Tonya Harding in this dramatic biopic about an infamous scandal that rocked the sporting world. Available to watch on Netflix.

The Fighter

A true underdog story based on the life and career of boxer Micky Ward and his unexpected surge towards a world title. Mark Whalberg stars as Ward with help from Christian Bale who portrays Ward’s drug addict brother and trainer. Warrior

A fictional drama based on two estranged brothers and their estranged father who cross paths again with the help of an MMA tournament. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton star as brothers Tommy and Brendan Riordan while Nick Nolte plays the father, a roll that garnered him an Oscar nomination. Available to watch on Netflix.

When We Were Kings

This Academy Award winning documentary chronicles the build up to the iconic heavyweight bout between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, more commonly known as ‘The Rumble In The Jungle’. Available to watch on Amazon Prime.

 

Battle Of The Sexes

Borg vs McEnroe

The legendary rivalry known as Fire and Ice takes centre stage in this biographical drama as the composed swede Bjorn Bjorg takes on the eccentric John McEnroe in the men’s singles final at Wimbledon, a match widely acknowledged as one of the best games of tennis ever played. Remember The Titans

Based on real events, Coach Herman Boone played by Denzel Washington, takes on a Virginia high school football team that have become racially integrated for the first time ever. Invictus

This Clint Eastwood directed drama centres around the events surrounding the 1995 rugby World Cup in South Africa and Nelson Mandela’s hopes of uniting a nation. Icarus
