Looking to break the monotony of Home Alone, Elf and Die Hard repeats? Your Christmas wish has come true! There’s a mouth-watering feast of festive fixtures taking place across the holiday season that’s sure to get you up off your couch. Check out our pick of the sport happening this Christmas below.
Belfast Giants
Is there a better place to spend the festive season than on the ice? The teal army have a bumper Christmas schedule with six games across December. The squad will have to take it easy on the mince pies as they’re straight back to action in the new year with a game against Sheffield Steelers on 3 January.
LGFA Finals
Things are about to heat up on 14 December with two LGFA club championship deciders happening at Croke Park. First up it’s Annaghdown v Bennekerry/Tinryland in the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship Final. Closing proceedings are Kilkerrin-Clonberne and Kilmacud Crokes in the All-Ireland Senior Club Championship Final.
AIB Camogie All-Ireland Senior & Intermediate Championship Finals
The groundsperson at Croke Park will have their work cut out as the action quickly returns to the historic stadium on 15 December. This time it’s the turn of some of Ireland’s finest Camogie players with the outcome of another two finals to be determined. Ahascragh/Caltra come up against Clanmaurice in the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship Final. Sarsfields and Truagh-Clonlara will then battle it out for All-Ireland Senior Club Championship glory.
AIB Hurling All-Ireland Senior & Intermediate Championship Semi-Finals
It’s semi-final season in the wonderful world of club Hurling with games taking place nationwide on 14 & 15 December 2024. The winning teams will set themselves up for a particularly nice Christmas break knowing that they have a final to contend in the new year.
14 December
- Intermediate Semi-Final: Tynagh Abbey Duniry v Rathnure – O’Connor Park
- Junior Semi-Final: Russell Rovers v Ballinascreen – The Downs GAA
15 December
- Senior Semi-Final: Loughrea v Na Fianna – Semple Stadium
- Senior Semi-Final: Sarsfields v Slaughtneil – Cedral St. Conleth’s
- Intermediate Semi-Final: Watergrasshill v Carey Faughs – Páirc Tailteann
Ulster v Munster
Kingspan Stadium is the setting as Ulster and Munster lock antlers in a URC encounter on Friday 20 December. The teams are neck and neck in the standings so this meeting in Belfast could be as tight as old St. Nick coming down a chimney.
Leinster v Connacht
Table toppers Leinster will look to wrap up the year on a high with a win in their final home game of 2024. Connacht will aim to hamper the league leaders progress and put an end to their unbeaten URC run at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday 21 December.
Over The Top Wrestling Presents “The Dream Before Christmas”
Whether it’s to do with eating, shopping or decorating, Christmas is the one time of year when it’s completely acceptable to go over the top. Why not continue that theme with a spot of wrestling? Over The Top presents “The Dream Before Christmas”, stopping off at The Complex, Dublin on 21 December and the Europa Hotel, Belfast on 22 December 2024.
Munster v Leinster
Munster welcome fierce rivals Leinster to Limerick when the pair face off at Thomond Park on Friday 27 December 2024. Leinster had the upper hand when the sides clashed back in October but the men in red will look to supply their fans with a late Christmas gift in the form of a victory on home soil.
