Van Morrison to Receive Prestigious John Mercer Award at 2015 Hall of Fame Awards

The Songwriters Hall of Fame announced today that Van Morrison will be the 2015 recipient of the esteemed Johnny Mercer Award at the 46th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner on 18 June in New York City.

Previous winners include Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Phil Collins, Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, Smokey Robinson and Billy Joel.

The Johnny Mercer Award, is the highest honor bestowed by the Songwriters Hall of Fame, is exclusively reserved for a songwriter or songwriting team who has already been inducted in a prior year, and whose body of work is of such high quality and impact, that it upholds the gold standard set by the legendary Johnny Mercer.  Van Morrison was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003.

Some of Van Morrison’s albums such as Astral Weeks, Moondance and It’s Too Late To Stop Now are widely viewed as among the best ever made.
