ARE YOU THERE, GARTH? IT’S ME, MARGARET

Staring Deirdre O’Kane Are You There, Garth? It’s Me, Margaret is a brand new Fiona Looney play that takes a sharp pen to country music and Ireland’s darkest hour.

A tale of Cowboys, Mexicans, Angry Residents, Happy Residents, The GAA, Civil Servants, Courts, Politicians and one woman’s hopes and dreams, Are  You There, Garth? It’s Me, Margaret is a show that thankfully isn’t subject to planning permission so will be opening in Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre on 14 October.

Margaret’s life is in a rut, stuck in an endless cycle of ironing, cooking and carrying her husband and children through the world.  She takes solace in chatting daily from her kitchen to country mega star Garth Books as she irons her latest mountain of crumpled clothing. Garth, it turns out is a good listener, which is just as well – as Margaret doesn’t really want another voice in the room while she tells him her woes.

Starring Deirdre O’Kane as Margaret, Are You There, Garth? It’s Me, Margaret is a laugh out loud comedy with a tender heart that tells the sorry tale of the concerts that never were in all their glory. Joining Margaret on stage will be all the key players who added such uniquely Irish colour to a story of high drama, huge laughs and countless thousands of unsold pink Stetsons.

From the creator of ANGLO: The Musical, the writer of Dandelions, October and Pheasant Island and the director of The Field and The Night Joe Dolan’s Car Broke Down, Are You There, Garth? It’s Me, Margaret opens in Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre on Tuesday, 13 October – 25 October.
