Interview: tmBlog chats to Johnny Fean

Johnny Fean is best known as vocalist and guitarist of iconic Irish band, Horslips. He now plays as part of duo, Fean and Travers, with bass guitarist Steve Travers of The Miami Showband. He also plays as part of trio, The Johnny Fean Band, joined by Steve Travers, and Blendi Krasniqi on drums and percussion.

 

tmBlog spoke to Johnny before his upcoming show with The Johnny Fean Band:

What is the proudest moment of your career?

The ”Dearg Doom” Guitar Riff.

What is the most difficult aspect of your career?

Travelling long distances.

Do you think the music Horslips played had a significant impact on the music industry in Ireland when you started out?

Yes..It changed attitudes and opened doors for others to follow.

Which Horslips album are you most proud of?

”THE BOOK OF INVASIONS”.

Horslips were together for 10 years. Can you tell us the key element to the band’s success?

A Unique ”Celtic Rock” style.

How does playing with The Johnny Fean band differ to playing with The Horslips?

It gives me the opportunity to play in other styles and broaden my music horizon.

What do you think of changes in the music industry nowadays?

Too much technology  nowadays.

Name some musicians that inspire you?

Django Rheinhardt and Jimi Hendrix.

Do you have a close relationship with your fans?

Yes.

Did you have an idol growing up?

The Beatles

How do you like to spend your free time?

Mostly at home.

What is your most prized possession?

My Guitar Collection

How do you prepare for a performance?

Relaxing for 30 minutes before going onstage.
