October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This October the Irish Cancer Society is calling on men and women all over Ireland to come together to fight breast cancer by taking part in the Paint it Pink campaign.
The campaign is all about doing something big or small to paint it pink in October and we would encourage everyone to think about hosting a pink event or doing something pink, sharing pictures of your activity on social media using #PINKPICS or texting the word ‘Pink’ to 50300 to donate €4 to the Society.
The Irish Cancer Society provide lots of valuable advice at www.cancer.ie and they encourage everyone to be Breast Aware.
While doctors still do not know what causes breast cancer, they now know there is a link between physical activity, body fat, alcohol and 42%* of breast cancers.
How to reduce your risk:
• Be a healthy weight
• Be active
• Limit alcohol
• Breastfeed your baby
• Don’t smoke
• Attend breast cancer screening
Anyone who is concerned about breast awareness or breast cancer can speak with a specialist nurse in confidence by calling the Irish Cancer Society’s Cancer Nurseline on Freephone 1800 200 700. (The helpline runs Monday to Thursday from 9am to 6pm, and every Friday from 9am to 5pm.) You can also visit the website www.cancer.ie or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
