RIP, Maurice White – the founder of Earth, Wind and Fire passes away
Earth, Wind and Fire is an American band who have had an important influence in the genres of R&B, soul, funk, jazz, disco, pop, rock, Latin and African since they formed in 1969. Their signature sound has been hugely influential musically, spiritually and socially. They have recorded a total of 23 albums – eight of which were Double Platinum Top 10 Pop Albums. The group has earned over 50 gold and platinum albums and sold more than 90 million albums worldwide. They have also had eight number one R&B singles.
Earth Wind And Fire are America’s seventh top-selling musical group of all-time, and is still going strong in its fifth decade. They are making revolutionary music that connects both the 20th and 21st centuries.
In June 2010, Philip Bailey, Maurice White and Verdine White were inducted into the Song Writer’s Hall of Fame.
MCD and Ticketmaster send their sincere condolences to Verdine White, his family & the band on learning of his brother Maurice’s passing yesterday. Maurice was a founding member and had retired from touring with Earth Wind & Fire in 1994 due to his battle with Parkinson’s Disease. RIP.
