Adele Takes Home Four Awards At The Brit Awards 2016!
Last night the 2016 BRIT Awards took place at London’s 02 Arena and was attended by a host of celebrities including Cheryl Cole, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Drake, Annie Lennox and supermodel Jourdan Dunn. Adele dominated the awards, taking home a total of four awards for:
?British Female Solo Artist

Accepting her award for female solo artist, Adele declared support for Kesha, who this week acused her record producer Dr Luke of sexual and emotional abuse. In her speech after she received the award for Global Success, Adele emotionally exclaimed: “I got really lost for a while and I didn’t know if I’d ever come back”, “For you all to be so kind to me is so nice.”
James Bay won the award for British Male Solo Artist. The other nominees were Aphex Twin, Calvin Harris, Jamie xx and Mark Ronson.
Coldplay won the award for British Group, meaning that the band now have nine trophies to their name. Other nominees for the award were Blur, Foals, One Direction and Years & Years.
Catfish and the Bottlemen won the award for British Breakthrough Act. The other nominees were James Bay, Jess Glynne, Wolf Alice, and Years & Years.
One Direction won British Artist Video for single ‘Drag Me Down’. Other nominees for this award included Adele – ‘Hello’, Calvin Harris & Disciples – ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, Ed Sheeran – ‘Photograph’, Ellie Goulding – ‘Love Me Like You Do’, Jessie J – ‘Flashlight’, Little Mix – ‘Black Magic’, Naughty Boy ft. Beyonce & Arrow Benjamin – ‘Runnin’ (Lose It All)’, Sam Smith – ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ and Years & Years – ‘King’.
Justin Bieber won the award for International Male Solo Artist. Other nominees were Drake, Father John Misty, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd.
Critics’ Choice Award was won by UK singer, Jack Garratt. Also nominated in this category were Izzy Bizu and Frances.
Coldplay opened the awards ceremony with a colourful performance of their new single ‘Hymn For The Weekend‘:
International superstar, Justin Bieber, performed his hit singles ‘Love Yourself‘ and ‘Sorry‘:
Jess Glynne performed a brilliant medley of songs from her album ‘I Cry When I laugh, including ‘Ain’t Got Far To Go,’ ‘Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself‘ and ‘Hold My Hand‘:
Rihanna teamed up with Drake for an astonishing performance of new single ‘Work‘:
Little Mix livened up the ceremony with an energetic performance of ‘Black Magic‘:
The show also featured an emotional tribute to David Bowie. Annie Lennox spoke about the iconic star and described him as “a quintessential visionary”, saying for some it must feel that things will never be the same again. Gary Oldman, actor and close friend of David Bowie, then accepted the 2016 Brits Icon Award on behalf of the singer and his family, exclaiming that Bowie’s music lives on. Bowie’s band then performed a medley of his hits and New Zealand singer Lorde joined them for a special rendition of ‘Life On Mars’:
Adele closed the show with a beautiful version of ‘When We Were Young‘.
We can’t wait for Adele’s performances at The SSE Arena, Belfast on 29 February and 1 March and at 3Arena, Dublin on 4 and 5 March!
