Bord Gáis Energy Theatre: 2017 Unwrapped

Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin let us in on some amazing treats yesterday when they ‘unwrapped 2017’. Introducing it’s most spectacular season line up in all of the theatre’s history. The new season has something to offer everyone from Broadway and West End musicals, dance, opera, drama, comedy, magic, music, one-off special events and engaging talks. Phew! We don’t know about you, but we’re very excited.

Moscow City Ballet makes a triumphant return to Dublin with two of Tchaikovsky’s best-loved ballets.

Swan Lake

Swan Lake is a signature piece of the company’s entire repertoire, the tragic tale of Siegfried and his love for Odette, the Queen of the Swans magnificently brought to life in all its original splendour by Tchaikovsky’s haunting and instantly recognisable score.

Sleeping Beauty

Carmen

It has been four years since The Moscow State Opera brought their production of Carmen to Dublin and the response was so overwhelming that a return was inevitable. Sung in French with English subtitles, this traditional staging is directed by George Isaakyan, one of Russia’s foremost Directors and multi-winner of the country’s most prestigious award, The Golden Mask.

Wonderland

TV and West End star Wendi Peters, much loved for her acclaimed portrayal of Cilla Battersby-Brown in Coronation Street, will headline the UK and Ireland tour of Wonderland as Queen of Hearts alongside musical theatre favourite Dave Willetts, who rose to fame for playing the title role in Phantom of the Opera, as White Rabbit.

Angela’s Ashes

In a major musical adaptation, Frank McCourt’s memoir Angela’s Ashes comes to the Bórd Gáis Energy Theatre in an emotional telling of a childhood in Limerick and beyond, featuring unforgettable songs and melodies, told with a rare lyricism and a warm inimitable sense of humour. As his parents struggle to provide for him and his brothers in 1940s Ireland, we follow young Frank’s escapades and experiences in a Dickensian landscape peopled by a drunken father, a helpless mother, pompous priests, bullying schoolmasters, money-lenders and dancing-teachers, culminating in his defiant escape to a new life in America.
